Geocaching folklore tells of a long
ago night cache which told of the legend of Calvin
Kaercher. In an attempt to uphold the law against
bootlegging during the era of prohibition, Kaercher tried to stop
those who were bootlegging on his property. Kaercher's
lifeless body was later discovered in the Schuylkill River.
Coincidence? His tragic death was avenged by a Black Wolf, or so
the story is told. Each of the bootleggers was found dead, having
accidently shot each other while trying to kill this Black
Wolf. Perhaps, the Black Wolf was the spirit of Kaercher
himself, seeking justice.
It is now rumored that when the moon
is full, a Black Wolf has been spotted roaming the banks of the
Schuylkill River. Another night cache now tries to lure
would be night cachers out into the woods again. Do you dare
to seek the cache hidden In the Shadow of
the Black Wolf?
The best starting point for this
night cache is at the completion of Have Flashlight, Will Cache
(GC34W22). Backtracking
your steps, follow the WHITE ROUND reflectors (see photo below)
until you find two ORANGE ROUND tacks (see photo below) indicating
the starting point for this cache. You will then continue to
follow WHITE ROUND reflectors, both singles (continue straight) and
doubles (make a turn) along the paths in this wooded area (see
photo below). As you make your approach to ground zero,
you will know you are close when you encounter triple WHITE ROUND
reflectors. Within 15' you will find a well stocked Ammo Can with
goodies to help you out in the darkness. Good
Luck.
Note - It is possible to
start this cache first and end up at Have Flashlight, Will Cache by
accident. If you do, there is a hint in the cache container to get
you back on track!
Remember, Hunters
wear Orange, and so should you.
Also note that the hunters in the area have out their own
reflectors as well (White, Orange, Round, Cube, Triangle, etc.) Try
not to be fooled! Stay the path, stay the course!
