Beit Govrin National Park is situated in the Judean plain region. The area consists of limestone hills, a soft stone comparatively, which enables easy quarrying. Due to the softness of the rock, many caves were carved in the surrounding hills in the course of the years, transforming it into a mysterious underground labyrinth.
At the center of the national park, there is a tall mound named 'Tel-Meresha', on which a Hebrew city of King Rehabam's period used to stand. Large cities existed here during other periods too.
Visiting the Beit Govrin National Park
Beit Govrin is an area filled with caves you may visit. The caves are well lit, so no flashlight is needed. Beit Govrin boasts an array of about 80 large Bell Caves, a Sidonian burial cave, some columbarium caves, and many other caves.
