USE CAUTION WHEN PULLING ON AND OFF THE HIGHWAY!
Ever wonder what those white specks a mile or so off to the north
side of HWY 395 are? Well it's a mining camp, of course!
Named Duisenberg, it is part of the LDMA (Lost Dutchman Mining
Association).
The caretakers tell us that Mr. Duisenberg (the famous automaker)
had planned to move his auto making plant here, but while exploring
his land, rough terrain forced him to abandon his mission along
with his vehicle. Completely disenchanted with the desert, he never
returned. Legend has it that the vehicle remains buried! Though
everyone we spoke with was hunting something far more
valuable.
When mining in this area was at its prime gold sold for a mandatory
$35 per ounce, today (price cap removed) gold sells for over $1800
per ounce. You can expect many more camps like Duisenberg popping
up all over the landscape!
The camp is members only, though you may visit the clubhouse for a
tour and great conversation. Don’t forget to tell them that
the Geocachers sent you!!
