Considered an eyesore, but
yet at the same time considered a fantastic sculpture and exhibit
of art. I personally, think it is a beautiful sculpture and
represents the north east for it's prominence- you however, can
think whatever you want when you see it (or don't ;-D).
Commissioned by
gateshead council, partly funded by the national lottery and
designed by Antony Gormley, the sculpture is the UK's largest and
the world's largest angel sculpture- standing proudly at 20m
tall, 200 tonnes and a wingspan of 54 metres, the angel is a true
icon. Work for the sculpture began after 3 years of
design work by Gormley, it was fabricated from July 1997 in
Hartlepool, Teesside, to it's, assembly on it's current
Gateshead site months later, in February 1998. When you
see the angel- you only see half of it, as the hardest part was
laying the foundations and reinforcing the surrounding
ground to hold such a mass!
The path can get
quite boggy- so do be aware of that.
This cache has been
placed with close proximity to the A1 to allow people journeying
north or south to visit here- it is also a nice leg-stretcher for
our four legged friends!

The
cache is a usual sized tupperware box and contains a few goodies. I
have wrapped the sticks covering the cache with grass (I know it
sounds lame but it really works- I've tried it before and it's
lasted for ages! Please could you make sure it looks as natural as
possible when you replace the cache.
Just
one last thing from me- could you please write more than 'TFTC
TNLN. Nice cache, good area' or 'DNF Not a good cache, not a nice
area' I really appreciate it and do read your logs- each and every
one of them!
