Geocache Description:

Otok Makarac

The small little island Makarac belongs to the Lastovo archipelago and is situated in the middle of the spacious Velji Lago (Big Lake) Bay on the south-western side of the beautiful island Lastovo. The bay is sheltered like a lagoon and provides protection against wind and waves, so you will find a lot of anchored yachts there.

The uninhabited islet Makarac with luxuriant vegetation can be reached by boat from the ferry port Ubli (situated in the SE part of the bay) or from Pasadur (recommended). Pasadur is the small bay located on the western side of the Lastovo Island, at the connection point of a small island Prezba and Lastovo's mainland. Here you can spend a great day enjoying crystal clear sea and beautiful nature.

The area of the islet Makarac has an extent of 0.019 km2 and a fast size of 580 meters. The highest point of the island is 26 meters above sea level, where you can find a radio antenna. The ruins of Sveti Rafael (Saint Raphael) can be found on the Northern side of the islet.

However, the cache is situated few meters above a little bay with crystal clear water at the Eastern side of the islet. Enjoy the swimming!
The cache got 5 terrain stars, because you need (twice) a boat to go there.

"Amidst the string of silver islands, over the Adriatic sea, stands the wooded Lastovo, amazingly beautiful island which from the outside seems a forgotten companion of history, while there, in the shadow of high olive-trees, life has flourished since the pre-Hellenic times." (Bernard Shaw)
