Geocache Description:

I recently was backpacking in the area and looking over the map I noticed a triangle with a dot in it. I decided that this was a place I wanted to go, MOWICH BUTTE. This is a simple offset cache, so read on.

The Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington is one of my favorite playgrounds. During a recent backpack trip I was looking at the map and noticed a triangle with a dot in it. This symbol on the map means there’s a Triangulation Station there. So I formulated a plan to come back and hike south of Trout Creek. This is about a 3.5 mile hike round trip including the bonus GC33KGH. Starting at the end of National Forest Development Road 41 (Lookout Mtn Rd). This is a road abandon by the Forest Service, When I don’t know. Head east on this abandon road for about 1/2 mile. As you get within 1/4 of a mile from the coordinates you come to a branch in the road, take the one to the left. The road goes all the way to the top. That would be the reason for the Terrain rating, no bushwhacking and a road to follow. I have to say that on a nice day the view is spectacular, as I saw Mt Adams, Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens.

Now for my two cents about the great outdoors, tell someone where you are going and when you will be back, don’t forget your outdoor essentials, if you pack it in, pack it out. I personally carry a SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger. Be safe and we'll all have a good time. I might also add that you may need a Northwest Forest Pass to park in the area. And one other thing, this time of year there is NO WATER on the ridge so take plenty with out. On trips like this I will start out with two 2-liter containers of WATER. Better to have too much then not enough.

The cache (a sandwich size four latch container) is hidden by MOWICH Reference Mark no 2. Once you locate the Benchmark MOWICH, which if you miss it get a new hobby. the cache is located 8.775 meters from the mark at 194 degrees.

While your there take a picture of Benchmark MOWICH and log it when you get home. The PID (Permanent IDentifier) for Benchmark MOWICH is RD2107. Print out the original data sheet and take it with you. Did I mention that it could be a difficult hike up the trail. Did I mention WATER. Did I mention to bring a writing stick as I didn’t put one in the cache. So what are you waiting for, head out and get it.

I don't often do this, but congratulations to CFM on her hard earned and well deserved FTF. As my wife say's "She's one of the few, the brave, and the deserving".
