Geocache Description:

The Clinton River watershed covers approximately 760 square miles in 4 Southeast Michigan counties - about 40% of eastern Oakland County, about 75% of Macomb County, and small portions of southern Lapeer and St. Clair counties. The river and its tributaries flow through 60 rural, suburban, and urban communities with a total population of more than 1.4 million. Come help us clear/clean up a small stretch of the river.

The Macomb County Public Works Commision will be cleaning an area of the North Branch of the Clinton River on Saturday, September, 10. The event will be held from 9:00 am until Noon.
Our goal is to open the river and have minimal blockages for people who would like to kayak or canoe the river. Also, opening up the river's water flow will help the river system cleanse itself and provide a better habitat for the river's aquatic life.

The major cause for jams in the water is fallen trees and branches. We will be removing the loose impediments but will not disturb any embedded roots or stumps. These provide critical habitat for fish and aquatic bugs which rely on the river for survival.

We will meet at the Public Works building (the posted coords) at 9:00 am to review the morning's plan and then caravan to the selected clean up site. The exact site willl be determined by the number of voluteers who will help in the day's activies.

You should be prepared for a morning on the water. It is suggested you wear old clothes, work gloves and proper footwear. We will need to have some people enter the water so if you have waders or hip boots you should bring them along. Additionally, a shovel and/or chainsaw will be helpful for the clean up. Kayakers are welcome to join in. Past clean ups have harvested shopping carts, tires, bricks, golf balls and chain link fencing.

The Macomb County Public Works Commision has asked for an approximate number of volunteers who will be helping by Tuesday, August 6th. In your "will attend" log please indicate the number of people in your party. It will help the Commision determine the site of the clean up. You can log your "will attend" after the 9th but we area looking for an approximate number of attendees.

The high degree of D/T has been selected but it should not discourage anyone form joining in clean up. I, for one, am looking forward to giving a little something back to a geocaching friendly community. I hope you will join me for the morning's activities.
