Le massif d'Uchon est réputé pour ses gros blocs de rochers et sa
vue splendide sur le Morvan. Au sommet, près du point culminant,
vous pourrez découvrir de beaux chaos granitiques dont les plus
connus sont les Rochers du Carnaval, le Nez de Chien et le
Mammouth.
Due to the huge rocks and
the view over Morvan mountains, the Uchon mountains are famous.
When you will reach the top ( close to the higher peak) you will
gaze at those granitic chaos named « Carnival , Dog's Nose and
Mammuth rocks»
Ces pierres, aux noms évocateurs, ont été le témoin de légendes et
de rites diverses. Leur morphologie particulière est due aux effets
conjugués de l'eau, du gel, des variations de températures et à
l'érosion qui ont façonné ce paysage pittoresque. Au fil des
siècles le granite s'est fracturé en de nombreuses fissures. Grâce
à elles, l'eau peut circuler en profondeur et provoquer par
hydrolyse la transformation des feldspaths en argile. Le granite se
désagrège pour produire un sable qui constitue l arène
granitique.
Les blocs isolés par les fissures
(diaclases) s'arrondissent et forment des boules de granite sain
incluses dans l'arène. A la faveur du ruissellement, l'argile et
l'arène sont entrainés ce qui fait qu'il ne reste plus que de
grosses boules de granites empilées les unes sur les autres qu'on
appelle chaos granitique.
The strange names of these
rocks are coming from local legends and rites. They are the
witnesses of this local history. The shapes can be explained. It is
an erosion feature due to the combination of water, frost and
wind. At first, the granit is spliting itself or by the frost, then
in a second time the water is flowing in these cracks deeper and
deeper to convert feldspath into clay and granitic sand. At the
end, the wind and the rain wash the cracks. When all the sand and
the clay is removed, the rock is isolate and only big granitic
balls, shaped by the water and the wind, remain. This granitic
feature is named: Granitic Chaos.
