Introdução
Por vezes as rochas são utilizadas para baptizar locais. Esta EarthCache vai levar-te para um local onde dois penedos graníticos foram fundamentais para dar nome a este lugar fantástico.
O lugar
'Talhadas' é uma pequena aldeia que tem à sua entrada dois penedos graníticos divididos por uma estrada. Cada um destes penedos tem uma face perfeitamente direita tal como se tivesse sido cortada por uma faca gigante.
Diz a lenda, que certo dia, pela Romana via, Santiago (filho do trovão) passou.... e este penedo, inteiro, no seu caminho encontrou. Com a força da palavra, em duas talhadas...o deixou.
O granito
A geologia do norte de Portugal é dominada por várias massas de granito. Estes penedos são compostos por granitos de duas micas, castanhos e granulometria média. Este mesmo granito é utilizado extensamente na constução de casas, bancos de jardim, fontanários, etc.

Introduction
Rocks are often used to name places and this EarthCache will take you to a location where two particular rocks have been fundamental in naming the small village where they outcrop.
The place
Talhadas (translates to cleaved) is a small village that has at its entrance two rounded grainte outcrops split by a road and the outcrop faces are perfecly straight as if cut by a very large knife.
One of the local legends attached to these cleaved rocks is that Santiago (son of thunder) travelled through the Roman road that once existed here and upon finding this great outcrop of granite in his path, he, by the power of his word, in two halves left it.
The granite
The geology of Norhern Portugal is dominated by several granite masses. This one is a medium-grained, light brownish two mica granite - the same that is used in the building of so many of the local houses, businesses, fountains and churches.
