Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of presidential caches.

These caches will come in a variety of sizes, difficulties and terrains. They will be placed all across the area. Hopefully everyone will enjoy finding them.

Dwight Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United states. He was born on October 14, 1890 in Texas, making him the last U.S. president to be born in the nineteenth century. While he was born in Texas, he spent most of his youth in Kansas. He died on March 28, 1969. He became president on January 20, 1953, remained in office until January 20, 1961. He was a member of the Republican party. In his first run for president he defeated Adlai Stevenson in a landslide. He once again ran against Adlai Stevenson for his second term, winning by 457-531 in the Electoral College. Obviously, he was a very popular president.

Eishenhower had a very extensive military career before entering politics. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. From 1915 to 1918 he was in the infantry. He rose through the ranks, and eventually became the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe in 1943 during World War II. He served for a while as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and became the Supreme Commander of NATO.

Dwight Eisenhower had many significant accomplishments during his tenure as president. Probably his most significant accomplishment was to authorize the Interstate Highway System in 1956. Imagine what the country would be like without the interstate highways today.

A little known fact is that Eisenhower was one of the first champions of civil rights. The Brown v. Board of Education ruling was handed down during his administration declaring separate but equal schools to be unconstitutional. He declared racial discrimination to be a national security issue. He signed two separate civil rights acts. The first in 1957 established a permanent civil rights office inside the justice department. The 1960 act introduced penalties for anyone who obstructed someone’s attempt to register to vote or actually vote, among other things. Both of these acts were weak compared to more contemporary acts, but they began to lay the groundwork for far more reaching laws.

I have grown a little tired of faceless park and grab micros. I’ve decided to get back to my caching roots a little by placing a regular size cache in the gamelands. You are looking for a 30MM ammo can hidden in a normal fashion. The terrain rating reflects the fact that areas near the cache can be pretty wet during certain times of the year. When I placed the cache everything was pretty dry.

Also, it is pretty easy to get disoriented in these gamelands because there is not distinct path. Be sure to mark your parking spot. I walked around in circles a little after I hid the cache before I found my way out.

As always, since this is a gamelands cache... BE SURE TO WEAR ORANGE DURING HUNTING SEASON!
