Helppo peruskätkö Rantasalmen museon perinteikkäissä maisemissa. Easy traditional cache at the Rantasalmi Museum.

Rantasalmen museo sijaitsee Rantasalmen keskustassa. Sen tunnistaa helposti keskellä peltoa kohoavasta tuulimyllystä. Muut museoalueen rakennukset ovat päärakennus, riihi, kaksi aittaa, kalastajien nuottakota ja sauna.

Museon päärakennus siirrettiin museoalueelle Konttilan tilalta 1960-luvun alussa. Vanhimmilta osiltaan sen kerrotaan olevan yli 200 vuoden ikäinen.

Päärakennuksen perusnäyttelyssä esitellään rantasalmelaista kotiteollisuutta, suutarin työtä ja letkuvarsipiippua, joka on rantasalmelainen erikoisuus. Lisäksi esillä on rantasalmelaisen valokuvaajan, Emil Tolvasen (1898–1950) työvälineitä.

Rantasalmen museo on avoinna kesäisin ja sopimuksen mukaan myös muina aikoina. Vapaa pääsy.

The Rantasalmi Museum is located in downtown Rantasalmi. The buildings in the museum grounds are the main building, the drying barn, two storehouses, windmill, the fisherman’s seine hut and sauna.

The main building of the museum was moved from the Konttila Farm in the beginning of the 1960s. It is said that the oldest parts of the building are more than 200 years old.

The permanent exhibition in the main building shows us a typical farmhouse kitchen and bedroom. Also it describes cottage industry in Rantasalmi, the work cobblers do and the local speciality, a Rantasalmi pipe for smoking tobacco. In addition, there is equipment of photographer Emil Tolvanen (1898–1950), who was from Rantasalmi, on display. Around the museum buildings there is a monument in the honour of the author and poet Alpo Noponen, who is renowned for his Finnish Christmas carols.

The museum is open in summer or by prior arrangement. Free admission.
