Geocache Description:

Pole Position was a racing arcade game released in 1982 by Namco and quickly brought to America by Atari.
You are looking for lost race car that is within two miles of the given coordinates. Bring a pen or pencil!

Pole Position was published by Namco in Japan and by Atari in the United States. The game popularized the use of sprite-based, pseudo-3D graphics with its "rear-view racer format"—where the player’s view is behind and above the vehicle, looking forward along the road with the horizon in sight—which would remain in use even after true 3D computer graphics became standard for racing games.

The home cartridge versions of the games were programmed by General Computer in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1983. The 2600 cartridge was programmed by Doug Macrae, Alan Hodgkinson, and John Allred. The 5200 cartridge was programmed by Mike Horowitz and Betty Tylko.

An interesting piece of trivia is that many years latter, Namco worked together with Nintendo on a racing game called Mario Kart Arcade GP in which characters from both companies raced around the track. These included Mario (look for him sitting on the cache), Ms. Pac-Man (RetiredGuy's girlfriend), and many others.
