Geocache Description:

;-) : Film, Šarlo Akrobata, Haustor, Električni Orgazam, Bijelo Dugme, Azra, Idoli, Elvis J. Kurtović, Boa, Patrola, Zabranjeno Pušenje, U Škripcu, Laki Pingvini, Denis i Denis, i mnogi, mnogi drugi...

EN: On the given coordinates, you are standing in front of a legendary place of not only croatian, but also yugoslav rock history. “Zebra” is how the young people called “Musical Scene Centar Kulusic” (later shortened to Kulusic), the name comes from a huge picture of zebra painted all over the walls in this rock club’s café. Opened in 1979, it was a café during the day, and during the night not only disco, but more important, a concert venue for most important concerts of the yugoslav new wave. As I live around the corner, and was attending high school which was 100m away from Kulusic, I personally witnessed the rise (but also the fall) of one of the most famous clubs in former Yugoslavia. Although only a teenager, I attended many concerts of current upcoming bands - Film, Idoli, Elektricni Orgazam, Azra, Haustor, Patrola, Boa, Sarlo Akrobata... There were three “live” albums recorded here in 1981, one by a new band from Zagreb called Film, second one by Azra (triple album “Straight to the bottom”, a memory of seven consecutive sold-out concerts in Kulusic), and the last one by already well-known band from Sarajevo (led by Goran Bregovic), Bijelo Dugme.

It was probably the best period for yugoslav rock music, times of vinyl records, radio shows of rock critics Drazen Vrdoljak and Darko Glavan, youth magazines Polet and Jukebox, completely another time which I ofter recall with a lot of nostalgy. In late 80’s and beginning of 90’s, club loses its concert importance, but becomes a place for thematic musical evenings, from rockabily Blue Moon on Fridays, Tom Tom Club on Sundays, country nights on Wednesdays, with some of the legendary DJs like Tomo Ricov, Tomo in der Muhlen, Zoran Pezo, Ozren Kanceljak, Slavin Balen... Current state of the club is rather sad, it has been closed for years (from 2002. I think) because of the continuous complaints from the neighbours about the noise, and it’s slowly rotting away….

Pay attention to curious muggle eyes, reaching for the cache can be visible from far away. Particularly look for parking attendants (dressed in bright colour vests), they have their favourite rest place nearby.

P.S. A couple of mandatory songs from the most popular bands of that period, that you just HAVE to listen. They will send you back in time, and recreate the atmosphere of the Yu-pop/rock of the 80's necessary for getting into the mood for looking for the cache... ;-) : Film, Šarlo Akrobata, Haustor, Električni Orgazam, Bijelo Dugme, Azra, Idoli, Elvis J. Kurtović, Boa, Patrola, Zabranjeno Pušenje, U Škripcu, Laki Pingvini, Denis i Denis, and many, many others...
