Geocache Description:

Sadly at the moment I can't find too much information on this church -

The church is a building of stone in various styles of architecture, and has been well restored. Christ Church is a Free church, and was erected in 1874.
Inside Christchurch (Willesborough) there is a large oak Roll of Honour that contains the names of men of the congregation who served in the colours in the Great War and men who went on to lose their lives.

And that this is the Church were I was christened - some time in the 20th century lol

I am now happy to say I have something interesting to add to this page

Just after 11.00 a.m on Sunday 3rd September 1939 as my father, Harold Bland, minister of this church, stood in the pulpit delivering his sermon, a parishioner entered the church, approached him and handed him a note. My father read the note and announced to his congregation that war with Germany had been declared. He then said a prayer for king & country & for those about to enter the conflict and invited his congregation to return to their homes. The sermon was never finished, the service was not completed. I know this because my brother Eric, who was aged 9 at the time recalled the story when, a few years ago, he too preached from the same pulpit!

In 1941 I was born at lived for a short while round the corner in Christ Church Parsonage, before the family moved out of 'bomb alley' & my father took up a curacy in Hereford.

Big thank you to Pigling

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list
