Helpohko peruskätkö Kaukkarin maastossa.
Fairly easy traditional cache in the region of Kaukkari.
Kauan, kauan sitten Lahti ei ollut kaupunki vaan pelkkä lahti Vesijärven rannalla, ja järvestä ei mainittu erikseen että siinä on vettä vaan se oli vain pelkkä järvi. Tästä järvestä itään Kaukkarissa oli Kymijärvi (nythän tässä alkaa olla järkeä – järvi joka laskee Kymijokeen). Täällä eli työteliäs ja ahkera kansa joka kävi kauppaa ja keräsi omaisuutta. Kansa oli kerännyt suunnattomasti rikkauksia itselleen. Ainoa vitsaus oli ahne ja kullanhimoinen peikko joka asui Kaukkarinvuorella. Se kävi säälimättömästi verottamassa ahkerien kaukkarilaisten omaisuutta ja piilotti varastamansa kullan omaan kätköönsä. Tähän asukkaat olivat joutuneet alistumaan.
Eräs nuori mies kuitenkin päätti ottaa kullan takaisin peikolta. Hän onnistuikin pääsemään lähelle peikon kätköä peikon nukkuessa, mutta yhtäkkiä peikko heräsi ja huomasi hänet. Raivostuneena peikko yritti iskeä valtavat hampaansa mieheen, mutta osuikin samalla suoraan vuoreen, joka iskusta halkesi. Peikon toinen torahammas jäi kiinni halkeamaan ja irtosi. Ulvoen peikko lähti karkuun eikä sitä sen koommin ole Kaukkarissa nähty – eikä myöskään peikon kulta-aarretta. Pahaksi onneksi myös tuo nuori mies murskaantui peikon hampaan alle. Aarre on kuitenkin edelleen siellä.
Nykyiset kaukkarilaiset, vaikka ovat edelleenkin työteliästä ja ahkeraa kansaa, eivät arvosta paikkaa ollenkaan vaan ovat roskanneet alueen. Kun käyt kätköllä, ota mukaasi ainakin yksi roska tai lasinsiru. Varo naulaisia lautoja. Toivottavasti saamme näin siivottua alueen.
Uskaltaudu paikalle, löydä peikon hammas ja tiedät että aarre on lähellä. Alueelle on helppo päästä, mutta GPS-signaali häipyy matkalla ja palautuu vasta aivan lähellä kätköä. Jästit parveilevat lähistöllä useasti.
A long, long time ago Lahti was not marked on the map as a town but was just a bay by Lake Vesijärvi, and you couldn’t tell by the name of the lake that it was made of water. (Learn some Finnish: Lahti means bay, vesi means water and järvi means lake, hence Vesijärvi is Water Lake). East of this lake was, and still is, another lake, Lake Kymijärvi in Kaukkari region (now, this is making sense – the name of the lake tells that it is somehow connected to River Kymijoki). In those long forgotten days there lived a hardworking people by the lake, who by bargaining and trading had made an enormous fortune for themselves. The only curse was a huge and greedy troll who lived on Mount Kaukkarinvuori. He yearned for the gold of the people and ruthlessly attacked them time and again steeling the gold and hiding it inside the mountain. The people could do nothing to stop the misery.
Finally, a young and courageous man decided to take the gold back from the troll. He managed to get near the treasure while the troll was asleep. Suddenly the troll woke up and saw him. The angry troll tried to bite the man with his big teeth but simultaneously hit the rock and cracked it. His fang got stuck in the crevasse and broke off. Howling and crying the troll fled from the place and has never been seen in Kaukkari since. Nor has anyone had any knowledge of the whereabouts of the gold as the young man also died, crushed by the troll. The treasure is still there.
The present residents of Kaukkari region, even though hardworking, do not appreciate the place and have littered it. When you visit the cache, please take with you at least one piece of trash or glass. This way we may make the cache site clean. Be careful, some of the boards have nails sticking up.
Approach the site, find the fang of the troll and you know that you are near the treasure. The area is easy to access, but the GPS signal fades on the way and only returns quite near the cache. Muggles can often be spotted in the area.
