This is a 2-part cache. Find the tool you'll need at the first location, then follow the pines Southeast until you hear the second location! What you hear, is ABOVE the cache you seek, so please don't disturb the aural clue. Hope you enjoy! Please return the second cache to it's location off the ground and don't forget to return the first cache's tool!
p.s. PLEASE don't park in tall grass during this drought, as a hot car can start a grass fire! Thanks, LCVFD
Cache in, Trash out!
This is not the 2nd location for League City United Methodist Church…or the 3rd! We’ve had a long history with this town!
LCUMC actually didn’t start in a building at all. The congregation would meet in people’s homes, barns or schools and was serviced by circuit riders. The League City Methodist Church was established as a mission in 1895. Annual camp meetings were held at the Dickinson picnic grounds until they were destroyed, along with all church buildings in League City in the 1900 Storm. The congregation took this as an opportunity to build a proper church, completed in 1901. G.W. Butler led fundraising to purchase an organ and later donated money to buy a church bell.
In 1935, in an effort to clear birds’ nests from the chimney, the wood shingles caught fire and the church burned to the ground. The new church building was completed in 1936.
In 1956, the church had outgrown its location and a building committee considered land near Clear Creek High School, but ultimately purchased land way outside town, near a new Interstate Highway (now IH45). In 1958, the original part of our current building was dedicated.
In 1968, our name changed from League City First Methodist Church to its current name, as a result of the union between the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church. Our area was dominated by the space boom in the late 1960’s. During this time, we added several paid staff members: a secretary, an organist, a choir director and a janitor. Our congregation grew to 700 in 1969. In 1972 the Kemah Methodist Church had to close, and its remaining 35 members were encouraged to join LCUMC and we were (and still are!) blessed with their presence. All this growth led to the construction of our current sanctuary, which was completed in 1976. The Family Life Center was added in 1995.
Now, with a great tradition of growth, we look forward to our next home: right here! So, ring the bell and come on in!
