Enjoying the great outdoors is something everyone can participate
in, and more and more people are taking advantage of the adventures
that Mother Nature provides. It is for this reason that we all need
to be conscious of our impact on the areas that we visit, and what
we take from them. It never ceases to amaze me the crap that
“man” leaves behind. You find yourself 2 miles back on
a beautiful trail enjoying all the beauty our world has to offer.
You stop to look at bird or a flower and notice an old discarded
beer can or candy wrapper lying next to you. The geocaching motto
is CITO – Cache In Trash Out. I have cached with many of you
and we all have humped our fair share of junk out of the woods and
parks. This will be short series which showcases some of the
different items I have cleaned out of my back pack from CITO at the
end of a cache run. A sort of honorable mention of
“JUNK”. Some of these are neat, some are obscure, some
are big some are small and some are down right gross. My plan is to
place these with only one or two log sheets. When the logs are full
these gems will be put to rest in their proper place. If any of
these happen to get muggled, they cannot be replaced. Most of these
are one of a kind. The acronym if you are wondering stands for
“Things Found While Caching”. Kind of a shame I even
had this idea!
Now for a short history of item number two: My son SKB and I were
doing a little caching in the Grove City Outlet parking lot. Lots
of park and grabs surround the mall. We were hiking across one of
the parking lots when we came across this. What the???? No idea how
this made it to the middle of the lot but we picked it up. I was
just about ready to toss this gem when I had the idea for a cache.
So here it is on display for your amusement. Here is a hint - It
fits in perfectly where I have it hid. Remember we found it in a
parking lot!
Don't forget to bring a camera!
