Ein wenig Rätselei um das Telefon.
Guesswork on the phone.
Bei diesem Cache geht es um das Thema Telefon. Er ist kleiner als eine Filmdose und befindet sich vor dem Eingang eines traditionsreichen Berliner Werkes, das viele Jahrzehnte Telefone und analoge, später auch digitale Vermittlungstechnik herstellte und auch die Software dafür entwickelte.
This cache is all about telephones. It is smaller than a film box and is located in front of the entrance of a traditional Berlin company, which for many decades produced phones, analog and later digital switching technology and developed the software for this purpose.
Das Telefon hat viele Väter. Erwähnt seien an dieser Stelle Philipp Reis (1834-1874) und Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922). Reis ist es gelungen, einen funktionierenden Fernsprecher zu bauen (s. Bild1), allerdings konnte er ihn nicht zur Serienreife bringen. Das übernahm dann Bell. Er war ein cleverer Geschäftsmann und gründete schließlich 1877 die Bell Telephone Company, Vorläufer der AT&T, einem großen Telefonkonzern.
The phone has many fathers. It is worth mentioning at this point Philipp Reis (1834-1874) and Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922). Reis managed to build a functioning telephone (see picture Bild1), but he could not get it ready for mass production. This then took-over Bell. He was an astute businessman and finally founded in 1877 the Bell Telephone Company, predecessor of AT & T, a large telephone company.

Um ein ganzes Telefonnetz zu betreiben benötigt man allerdings auch Vermittlungstechnik. Bestand diese Technik am Anfang noch aus dem „Fräulein vom Amt“, die auf Anfrage manuell die Verbindung zusammenstöpselte, wurde dieser Vorgang zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts automatisiert.
In order to operate an entire telephone network one needs switching technology. At the beginning the connections were made manually on request. This process was automated at the beginning of the 20th century.
Bis zur Digitalisierung der Vermittlungstechnik waren Edelmetall-Motor-Drehwähler (EMD) das Herzstück in einer Vermittlungsstelle (Abb. Bild2). Mehrere solcher EMDs hintereinander konnten dann Ziffer für Ziffer eine Verbindung durch das Telefonnetz herstellen.
Then electromechanical switches (EMD) were used, they were the heart of an exchange (picture Bild2). Several such EMDs in a row could make a connection digit by digit through the telephone network.

Um an die Finalkoordinaten zu kommen, müsst ihr ein paar Fragen beantworten, die sich natürlich um das Thema Telefon drehen. Aber keine Angst, es wird nicht zu technisch. Gesucht wird zunächst eine Telefonnummer der Form abacccde. Die einzelnen Ziffern a-e ergeben sich folgendermaßen:

Dabei entstand ein Song, bei dem ein Mann seine Herzensdame anrufen will, sie aber nicht ans Telefon geht. Der Titel des Liedes besteht aus 2 Wörtern. Die Anzahl der Buchstaben des 2. Wortes ist c.

4. Um jemanden in N 51° 20.705 E 008° 16.989 anzurufen, braucht man die entsprechende Ortsnetzkennzahl. Sie habe die Form wxyz, dann ist y-x=d.
To call someone in N 51° 20.705 E 008° 16.989, you need the appropriate area code. It matches the pattern wxyz, and y-x = d.
5. Und nun gehts an die frische Luft. An den o.a. Koordinaten steht eine Telefonzelle. Auf dem Apparat ist eine Standortnummer angegeben. Die vorletzte Ziffer minus 1 ergibt die letzte fehlende Ziffer e.
Da die Telefonzelle leider abgebaut wurde, gibts die letzte Ziffer gratis: e=2
And now, out in the fresh air. At the given coordinates above is a telephone booth. On the telephone device is a location number (Standortnummer). The penultimate digit minus 1 is the last missing digit e.

Nun habt ihr die Telefonnummer zusammen. Wenn ihr sie anwählt, hört ihr einen Anrufbeantworter, der euch die Finalkoordinaten mitteilt. Zu erwähnen sei noch, dass es sich um eine Telefonnummer im Ortsnetz Berlin handelt. Wenn ihr also von außerhalb Berlins anruft, müsst ihr eine 030 vorwählen, und wenn ihr von außerhalb Deutschlands anruft so ist vorher 004930 zu wählen.
Now you have got the telephone number. If you dial it, you hear an answering machine that tells you the final coordinates. First in German, then in English.
