Geocache Description:


The Talyllyn Railway was the first preserved railway in the world, having been saved after closure by enthusiasts led by Tom Rolt in 1951, since when restoration has resulted in a major tourist attraction carrying passengers from the Welsh coast at Tywyn to Abergynolyn and Nant Gwernol up the valley of the Afon Fathew and passing the Dolgoch Falls on the way. So the 60th anniversary of this occasion is taking place in 2011 with special events through the season.
Rhydyronen Station is one of the most attractive on the line and marks the point where the little steam engines really start to work hard as they lift their trains from the coastal plain and climb up the valley side towards the quarries which were the original reason the line was built.
Road access is from Bryncrug at the junction of the A493 and B4405
The cache can be approached by a stile from the road with no need to cross the running lines.
