The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
This is a small roadside cemetery that's easy to miss. There are 15 graves here (primarily for the Burches and Vances), ranging from 1886 to 1940. An online resource guesses that the grave of Mrs. J.P. Ramsey dates to 1803, but this seems most unlikely, unless it was a reinterment. For two of the burials, there is no information at all.
The site is fenced and receives at least periodic maintenance from the Austin Retired Chiefs Society. You do not need to enter the grounds, much, to find this cache, or at any rate you don't have to walk through the gate. As always, please report any refinements to the listed coordinates.
