This journey takes you to Quarry Park located in northeast Rocky Hill on a former trap rock quarry. The 84.3-acre park has well-marked trails and offers hiking, bird watching, mountain biking, and views of the Connecticut River, Glastonbury and Hartford. The Rocky Hill Quarry was last operated in the mid 1940's and later became a base for soldiers in WWII.
An abundance of trap rock, a dark-colored igneous rock, can be seen during your walk. It is volcanic in origin and usually mined for road bedding or similar construction applications.
The Quarry is reportedly haunted and "some" claimed to have seen apparitions such as shadows, light orbs and white figures late at night. Unexplainable sounds such as men talking, machinery and gunshots have allegedly been heard. We certainly didn't observe or hear any of these phenomenons during our visits. Take a look at the pictures of orbs taken by Teen-in-Tow – could this be proof of a haunting?
Leashed dogs are OK. The park is closed at dusk. Reminder: WISE CACHERS WEAR BLAZE ORANGE when in the woods during hunting season.
