Geocache Description:

Ammo can hidden in a rock outcropping at the western end of Bays Ridge Trail

The trail system at Bays Mountain Park current weaves 37 miles of hiking and some mountain biking opportunities. Bays Ridge Trail is in the lesser used western Hawkins County side of the park. Its trailheads are from Bays Ridge Road and Front Hollow Road. Total hiking distance in order of seven miles round trip requiring 3.5 hours. My recommendation would be make a loop of Bays Ridge Road, Bays Ridge Trail, Front Hollow Road, and Lake Road. Note: Bays Mountain Park does have a $4 entrance fee and check their website for hours.

The geocache is a slightly painted ammo can with "Geocaching.com" written on side with a white marker. It was started fully stocked with swag of various types - and a travel bug. While hidden in a rock outcropping, it is not covered thus able to see from the right angle.

If you hike this route in springtime, the wildflowers were in bloom including fire pinks, ladyslippers, and wild orchids.

In short, ammo cans don't need to be idle in garages, but placed out in the forest as geocaches.
