Existem dois molhes à entrada do porto de Portimão. Aquele em que nós estamos interessados é o maior dos dois situado no lado mais afastado do Rio Arade. É necessário que desçam 100 degraus a partir do estacionamento acima. A primeira etapa é no topo dos degraus.

There are two "molhes" at the entrance of Portimão harbour. The one we are interested in is the widest of the two on the far side of the Arade river. It requires you to go down 100 steps from the carpark above.

Um pequeno porto comercial dos Fenícios, Gregos e Cartagineses foi a origem de Portimão. Alguns historiadores consideram que o lugar era originalmente o famoso Portus Hannibalis, nome atribuído pelo famoso general cartaginês, Aníbal Barca. Quando os Mouros ocuparam a região, o lugar foi denominado "Burj Munt". Localizado na foz do Rio Arade, constitui um porto natural e no passado foi conhecido como refúgio de contrabandistas e piratas. O rio também proporciona o acesso marítimo até à antiga cidade de Silves que foi a capital do Algarve durante a ocupação mourisca. Nessa época o lugar foi chamado Porcimunt. Em 1504, reconhecida como cidade importante, foi-lhe atribuído o nome "Vila Nova de Portimão" e tornou-se parte da propriedade da família Castelo Branco até ao século XVII.
Mais tarde renomeada Portimão, o seu enorme desenvolvimento durante o século XIX transformou-a num dos centros de pesca e indústria conserveira mais importantes do Algarve até ao início dos anos 80, quando a queda dos recursos de pesca e a recessão originou o encerramento das fábricas.

Neste local há um nome escrito na pedra da calçada. Cada palavra tem um valor A, B, C, etc. Anote o número de letras de cada palavra. Por exemplo, o número de letras do nome "Cidade de Portimão" é:
palavra A (cidade) = 6
palavra B (de) = 2
palavra C (Portimão) = 8

Agora descubra as coordenadas para o próximo ponto com base no número de caracteres no nome do primeiro ponto.
O segundo ponto está em:

W08 31.(C) ((A*C)-(A+B+C))

No segundo ponto há um código esculpido na rocha pelos construtores originais do molhe. Ignore o primeiro caractere e atribua aos 3 números os valores de D, E, F.

Portimão traces its origins back to a small trading port of the Phoenicians, Greeks and Carthaginians. Some historians have indicated that the place was originally the famous Portus Hannibalis named by the famous Carthaginian General, Hannibal Barca. During the following Moorish occupation they renamed the place “Burj Munt”. Located at the mouth of the River Arade it provides a natural harbour and has at times been known in its past as a home for smugglers and pirates. The river also provides the sea access to the up-river ancient City of Silves that was the capital of the Algarve during the Moorish occupation. At this time the place was named Porcimunt but later in 1504 it was recognized as a proper town and granted the name “Vila Nova de Portimão” and became part of the property possessions of the Castelo Branco family until the 17th Century. Much later it was commonly renamed as Portimão and was extensively developed in the 19th century to become one of the most important centres on the Algarve of the fishing and canning industry until the early 1980s when the drop in fish stocks and recession drove the remaining factories out of business.

At this location there is a name written in the stone calcada. Give each word a value A, B, C, etc. For each word note down the number of characters. For example the number of characters in the name "City of Portimão" is:

word A (city) = 4
word B (of) = 2
word C (Portimão) = 8

Now work out the coordinates for the next stage based on the number of characters in the name at the first stage.

At the second stage there is a code carved in the rock by the original builders of the molhe. Ignore the first character, but give the 3 numbers the values of D, E, F.
