En 1997 l’architecte ALIBERT s’est inspiré d’une pyramide Maya, pour créer la Cité de l’Or.
Elle symbolise un diamant.

Depuis 1888, l’histoire de Saint-Amand-Montrond est intimement liée à celle de l’or et de la bijouterie.
C’est en effet cette année là que Monsieur Moricault, bijoutier parisien lassé du tumulte de la capitale décide de s’installer en province. Une de ses employées originaire de Meillant lui conseille alors Saint-Amand-Montrond et c’est ainsi que naquit le lien entre la ville et la bijouterie.
La ville de St-Amand-Montrond est titulaire depuis avril 1996 du label Ville et Métiers d’Art.
