Vous allez à la rencontre du seul édifice orthodoxe de l' ouest de la France, édifiée en 1926 par des ouvriers russes venus travailler dans les usines de la Société Métallurgique de Normandie (groupe Schneider), dont les usines alors situées sur le plateau de Colombelles ont été détruites à partir de 1994. La construction de l' édifice, partiellement financée par l' entreprise, suit des plans fournis par un colonel de l' armée russe, imitant le style des églises de Saint-Petersbourg. Les icônes ont été exécutées par les peintres Fostov et Khvostov. Une bibliothèque d' ouvrages en langue russe est accolée à l' église. Endommagée par les bombardements de juin 1944, l' église a été restaurée en 1946, toujours avec l' aide de la Société Métallurgique de Normandie.
Le site comprend l'église à proprement parler, avec son bulbe vert posé sur le faîte du toit, le pavillon des cloches, couvert d'un toit à deux pans, abritant deux cloches et bâti au-dessus du logement du prêtre et enfin, parallèle à l'église, le petit bâtiment de la bibliothèque religieuse.
