13.gs. te tika uzcelta Rigas biskapa pils, kas nopostita 18.gs. sakuma. 1226. gada, tieši 25 gadus pec Rigas dibinašanas, pie Salacas ietekas jura biskaps Alberts lika uzcelt savu mura pili. Biskapam piedereja 22 pilis, bet ši parvaldija pieeju visam Salacas baseinam no juras puses, ta sauktos Salacas vartus un bija vieniga arhibiskapam piederoša osta. Daudzo karu laika pils neskaitamas reizes cieta un 18. gadsimta sakuma bija gandriz nopostita. Akmeni no sabrukušas pils izmantoti baznicas setai, un musdienas par pili vairs liecina tikai zemes uzberums...

About the history...
The castle mound is regarded the most ancient spot of the town. It lies in the distance of 0,5km from the sea. In 1226 only 25 years after foundation of Riga (Riga) city bishop Albert built a stone castle here. He owned 22 castles, but this one had the access to the whole Salaca basin from the sea, the so called Salaca gate and was the only sea port owned by the bishop. During several centuries the owners of the castle changed. It passed now into the hands of German Order, now Russians, now Swedes and Poles. The castle suffered in many wars. At the end of the 17th century there were only ruins left and stones from them were used to make fence to the near church. Nowadays about the castle only reminds the mound...
