Once upon a time business man from Germany called Theodor Riegert came to Latvia and took with him the great chocolate making tradition. Right here on the Green Street were built the first chocolate factory in Latvia. It was 1870. Factory was called „th.Riegert”. It became one of the biggest exporter in Russian Empire. During first world war production stopped, but after it business was taken over by A/S Laima, which now is the biggest chocolate exporter in Baltic States. „Th.Riegert”factory has not survived till nowadays. So only few people knows that before Latvia even became a democratic republic here on the Green Street air was filled with chocolate aroma.
Reiz, sensenos laikos, biznesmenis no Vacijas, Teodors Rigerts varda, ieradas Latvija un atveda lidzi šokolades pagatavošanas tradicijas. Tieši šeit 1870. gada atvera pirmo šokolades fabriku Latvija. To sauca „Th. Rigerts” šokolades fabrika. Ta kluva par vienu no lielakajam šokolades eksportetajam Krievijas imperija. Pirma pasaules kara laika ražošana apstajas, bet pec kara akcijas parnema A/S Laima, kas šobrid ir viena no lielakajam šokolades eksportetajam Baltija. „Th.Rigerta” fabrika nav saglabajusies lidz musdienam, lidz ar to tikai daži zina, ka šeit, Zalaja iela, vel pirms Latvijas Republika bija dzimusi, gaisa virmoja šokolades smarža.
