Yet another cache intended to get people out and hiking along the
Bay Area Ridge Trail, this
one's found at the end of a very recent addition to the trail.
The Bay Area Ridge Trail is a proposed 550+ mile hiking &
riding trail along the ridgelines and hilltops circling San
Francisco Bay. There are currently more than 330 miles of Ridge
Trail open to the public, and preserved for future generations.
When complete, the Ridge Trail will connect more than 70 parks and
open spaces.
This particular section of the Ridge Trail, dedicated in late
2010, extends from Don Castro Regional Park through Five Canyons
Regional Park and into the brand-new North Garin Regional Park. If
you park in the main Don Castro parking lot, it ends up being about
a ten-mile out-and-back hike to the (current) south end of this
section of the trail -- but you can park at the end of Gold Ridge
Drive, which can cut a couple miles (and several hundred feet of
elevation change) off the trip.
The cache contains a fair amount of Ridge Trail swag to
start.
Congratulations to geocasual for his FTF! As a prize, he picked
up a copy of
"Bay Area Ridge Trail: The Official Guide" by local hiking
legend Jean Rusmore.
