Geocache Description:

This is a puzzle cache that must be solved using the item/directions found at the posted coordinates.

This is a series dedicated to the individuals who assisted me in my journey from sightless to the visually enabled. My eyesight hadn’t been very good for some time. Probably about 3 years or so. But, from the beginning of December until the beginning of January, I suffered the rapid deterioration of sight in one of my eyes - the other one was already pretty much useless. During this time, I saw several doctors and was generally assisted by people as one would expect I would need. Today, I’m happy to report I have 20/20 vision - in one eye. The other one is still pretty much useless, but that will be fixed at some point soon too.

As one might imagine, it can be rather challenging looking through a perpetually foggy lens. This series has been designed to be just as challenging. Sight will be the theme for these caches. Each of these caches is a multi-stage cache. The first stage at the posted coordinates will get you to the second stage, as long as you can see where to go. The direction you must go will not always be readily apparent. Each of these puzzles will require additional equipment that not every cacher will always have with them.

As with most sensory deterioration, my eyesight loss started slowly. A couple of years ago, I started to notice things were fuzzy, so I headed to my local optometrist who was covered under my insurance and got glasses. Not a really radical prescription, but enough to sharpen things up a bit. Then, a few months ago, I started sitting closer and closer to my computer monitor. I headed to the same store, but this is the location where I saw the optometrist and got a different prescription. Less than 1 month later, I went to take my driver’s vision test and failed miserably. So back I went, and saw Dr. Kao. She determined that either my prescription was written incorrectly, or my vision had deteriorated very rapidly. She adjusted my prescription and sent me along my merry way - and she included a form that allowed me to pass my vision test based on the new prescription. My new glasses would take 5 days to order.

Later that weekend I lost almost all vision in my right eye. You know when 5 people climb into a car on a cold day and a block later you can see anything? That was my GOOD eye. I went in to see Dr. Kao that Sunday. Her fears that my vision had rapidly deteriorated seemed confirmed, so she got on the phone with a friend and got me in to see a Retinal Specialist later that day. Did I mention it was Sunday?

This cache is for you Dr. Kao. Thank you very much for all your help. You went above and beyond in several ways, not all of which need to be publicly disclosed.
