Geocache Description:

The cache is at the posted coordinates but you must meet the challenge requirements to log this cache.

The challenge requirements are very simple but also very difficult. Just find 10 caches that were published/placed in the year 2000.

That includes all the caches with 4 digits or less (GCxx) and caches up to GC10F. The GC stipulation is added since a cache placement can be backdated or any date used, but the GC number will show when this has happened.

For Delaware, there is only one cache that would count--GC10A that was placed on 12/30/2000. Going to Maryland will not help. You would find only one qualified cache each in NJ. Ct, RH, Vt, and NH. NY and Ma are the places to look with 5 and 7 caches. Qualifing caches are located all around the US. I would not make you do something I have not already done, in fact I have found 20 qualifing caches.

The oldest Virginia cache (GC175, Hidden 12/17/00) and oldest PA cache (GC184, hidden 9/21/00) will count even though they have slightly high GC numbers caused by cache re-listing or delayed listing). The oldest cache in Canada (GCBBA) will also count since it was a relisting of GC41 done by Groundspeak.

Most of the stastics generating programs for your caching profile have a section that will show that oldest caches you have found.

You can use Project PC checker if you want. Easiest is to use provided Checker

Project GC Checker

Your log must include the caches found (GC # and name) and date found. Alternate is to email me this information.

This is meant as a regional challenge. The cache is located right off busy I-95 for easy access by travelers.

The actual cache placement was made to be like a year 2000 cache. It is a 50 cal ammo box in the woods that requires a 1.5 mile round trip hike. Its also like finding a cache in 2000 when the GPS units were not as good and coords jumped. You will see that happen even with your new GPS at Iron Hill Park, which is a large high iron content hill that can effect GPS performance. So just like the old days there is a very good hint to help overcome a jumpy GPS.

Park in the main Iron Hill parking lot that is located off of Whitaker Road and very close to I-95. Follow the paved path up to the left side of the pavillion. A dirt trail will skirt a very deep depression--the remains of an old Iron Mine. There is nice trail ( yellow blaze and then double horizontal yellow blaze) to within 80 feet of the cache. About 0.12 further on the trail is GC1R17C and there are about 15 caches in the entire Iron Hill Park.
