EVENT
DESRIPTION:
Geocachers and
non-geocachers alike are invited to come out and help clean up
Kenora. Come join us at our meeting site and contribute any amount
of time that you can to cleaning up. The CITO activities will focus
around two specific Zones in the Kenora area. After scattering
to the many available parking locations, participants will remove
trash from the zones, dropping the trash at designated location in
those parking areas, and than returning to review successes at the
meeting site. Door prizes, participation prizes, and
achievement prizes will be available to all who attend.
PLEASE
BRING:
A full tummy
The late start time allows
for a hearty breakfast. Most important.
Gloves
‘cheap’ plastic
ones are available on site, but they are not very trash
friendly
Water and Snacks
some water and snacks will
be available to volunteers, but please pack more if you know you
will want more.
A desire to
geocache
The area of Kenora is loaded with many new
caches. This event will also feature a
‘yet-unpublished’ event cache with some FTF/STF
prizes.
YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH:
A satin
‘collectable’ nametag (limited
quantity),
‘door prize’
raffle stub,
garbage bags, ‘pick up
stick’, and plastic gloves.
Hand sanitizer, towels, water, and
nutrients will be available at the meeting
grounds.
EVENT
TIMELINE:
10:30-11:00 -
Meet & Greet
Volunteer cachers will meet
and mingle, awaiting other arrivals, trading geocoin codes,
etc.. The meeting area will be outdoors. Please Dress Appropriately. CITO themed
Posters will mark the gathering area in the parking lot of Garrow
Beach. This is a time to get to know each other, and
discuss plans for the day.
11:00-11:15 -
Welcome Ceremonies
Participants will be given all required
CITO tools, including bags, gloves, and a pick-up-stick. Hand
sanitizer and paper towel will be available at the meeting area.
Participants will be introduced to the days activities, Prizing
plans etc.
11:15- 2:15 -
CITO Action!
Our focus for this CITO event will be on
two areas. Each of these patches of forest
are in the residential areas of Kenora. Both 'zones' are
within walking distance of our meeting place. Parking areas will
also be available at many access points to the
trials.
A number of marked trash
'drop off' locations will be setup up near a number of parking
areas around the zones.
RECYCLING will be a key
focus of this event. Participants will be asked to carry two bags,
one for trash and one for metals and plastics. Participants could
work in pairs to split the carrying load.
Each zone has different
issues:
Zone
A - The Rabbit Lake Trails Zone (see trail
map
here).
This zone has a number of caches in it, but don’t spend
too much time hunting! We're here to CITO today! A high-pedestrian
area, much trash can be found in the Garrow Beach area (parking)
and along the Rabbit Lake Trails.
Zone B - "Water Tower Trails"
Not official trails, but a common place for pedestrian traffic,
with a few caches to boot. Some areas in this zone are CITO
jackpots! This area has a little rougher terrain. Some spots in
this area are full of massive trash piles that could definitely be
cleaned up. Not the ‘kid friendly’
zone.
2:15-2:30 - Pack it in, and
regroup
Participants should
be completed collecting trash, and have made their way back to the
meeting place.
2:30-3:00 - Meet &
Treat!
The event will culminate back at our
original meeting location. Small snacks and drinks will be
available to participants. The 'Door' and 'Participation Prizes'
will be awarded at this time. Then, a special event cache, unlisted
to the public (yet) will be available to participants. Inside, CITO
themed FTF and STF prizes. The cache will be published for the
general public to access after the day of the event. Once the event
has been closed, participants are welcome to go about their marry
way, seeking out the new event cache, or any of the other caches in
the Kenora area.
PRIZES AVAILABLE
The event will feature a number of prizes,
including a Door Prize, Participation Prize, and FTF and STF prizes
on an Event Cache. Prizes include unactivated Geocoins, travels
bugs, swag and more! Much Thanks (geechi meeguetch - ojibwe) goes
to Landsharkz.ca and Worldcaching.com for their donations to this
event.
PLEASE LOG IF YOU ARE COMING SO I MAY PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
THANKS!
