How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

As geocachers we are already using a very complex and fascinating piece of technology a GPSr (Global Positioning System receiver). while that might be the most important piece of technology there are more ways to get the job done and even more to help along the way. this event will be a series of information sessions on the various pieces of technology that is used to get us to our final goal the cache container.

These sessions will take place in community room #1 at Willie O'Ree place from 1:30 to 4:30 there will be a 5$ fee to help cover the cost of snacks and the room rental.

The sessions being conducted during the afternoon will include:

GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)

This might be the one piece of software that will solve all of our cache handling needs and as such it is very expansive and can be very intimidating for first time users. This session will start off with an introduction to the software and its capabilities and progress into the more advanced techniques.

Caching with the phone:

As smart phones are becoming more and more common so does the geocaching solutions for each of these phones. This session will touch on the various apps available for these devices and what they can do for us as cachers.

Wherigo:

This session will help introduce the grand world of wherigo development. it will touch on the basics of what wherigo is and help introduce how to develop your very own wherigo cartridge.

(more information sessions to be added if they come available.)
