scottberks hits 3K! Traditional Cache
NatalieD!: went out to check on this one the other day and it looks like someone took this ammo can (which really pisses me off, because it was a BADASS ammo can that i spent way too long painting!) i think this one's time is up- but it had a good run! sorry to those who have DNF'd recently, and thanks to all who came out to grab the smiley here (i'm sure scott appreciates it, too!)

What an accomplishment... 3000 finds! Congrats to Scott on this
amazing achievement, just two and a half short years after he
started geocaching!
I still remember the first time Scott ever called me. I had FTF'd a
ridiculously hard cache in Deer Grove and he was at GZ searching a
few days later, hoping to become STF. All I heard from the other
line was, "Where the @&*% IS this thing?!" (DING!)
All jokes (and vulgarity!) aside, though... Scott is a true caching
legend- a caching celebrity, if you will. He may be a bit
unorthodox in his ways at times... but hey, he's scottberks... what
did you expect?!
Scott has been a great friend, a great caching partner, and a great
mentor to me since I started caching. When I first met Scott I was,
for the most part, still a 'newbie.' I think I had somewhere along
the lines of 300-something finds; he was well past 2000, yet wasn't
embarrassed or hesitant to take me out caching. Whether it was a
numbers run, going for late-night FTF's in the forest, taking me to
an event, introducing me to new people, or just heading out to grab
a few caches, Scott always included me. Although caching was one of
my favorite things to do already, he's the one person who really
jump-started my overall LOVE for this hobby.
We've shared many laughs, many (unfortunate, yet somehow hilarious)
run-ins with the law, and many memories that will not soon be
forgotten. Who could ask for more? Isn't that what caching is all
about?
Anyone who knows Scott knows that he's one of the funniest AND most
fun people to hang out with, and he has definitely worked hard to
reach this milestone. Not only that, but he's placed nearly 80
caches of his own in the community- and that's something we can ALL
be thankful for!
I was originally going to place this cache in Deer Grove Forest
Preserve (aka our "stomping grounds") but instead placed it in a
preserve I would've never known about if it hadn't been for Scott.
He told me about this place and said it was one of the most
beautiful preserves in the entire Chicagoland area, and in my
opinion, he's absolutely right- I love this area and am honored to
place his commemorative hide here.
Scott has introduced me to so many great places to cache, has
helped me develop my geosense and become a more well-rounded
cacher, and has really shown me the ropes of caching ever since we
met. So thanks, Scott, for being such a wonderful person and the
greatest partner-in-crime anyone could ask for. I owe it all to
you!
As far as the hide goes, you will be searching for the typical
painted ammo can in the woods- stocked with swag, and of course, a
special present for the honoree! The terrain rating will vary based
on season and approach. Please re-hide the cache as well as you
found it, if not better.
So here's to 3K- another milestone of what I'm sure will be many,
many more to come. CONGRATULATIONS to the one and only scottberks.
Cache on!!
**Congrats to scottberks on FTF- and post-publication FTF at
that!**
