Geocache Description:

Explore the ruins of Corfe Castle from the comfort of your armchair! This cache will take you on a virtual tour of the castle's West Bailey using Google Street View. The castle was one of 19 National Trust properties visited by the Street View Trike in 2009.

The West Bailey is the site of the oldest part of the castle, the Old Hall built by William the Conqueror in 1086. Only the south wall is left with its distinctive herringbone stonework. Look out for it on the tour!

To start the tour right click on the picture and select Open Link in New Tab from the drop-down menu. This will open a Street View of the castle in a new tab so you can refer to the cache page in the original tab. Zoom into the map window in the bottom left corner to see the blue highlighted route. If you're unfamiliar with Street View there's a help page here.

As you "walk" around the castle answer the following questions. You may not find the correct or best view the first time. Once you have the right view look all around and don't forget to zoom in! You don't need to look beyond the outer walls of the castle except for question 3. Tip: When you think you've found the right view bookmark the page so you can find it again easily! Note: This puzzle uses imagery from 2009 only.

1. Find a couple standing by the wall near the North Tower. The woman's wearing a red & white jacket. They've been captured by the Street View camera a few times and you need to find them when they're looking straight at it. How many other people can you see? Answer = a

2. Find a blonde haired woman on the path wearing a light blue fleece(?) jacket. Find her when she's standing with her back to the Street View camera looking towards a man at the South West Gatehouse. The man looks like two men due to poor image stitching by Google! How many other people can you see? Answer = b

3. Find two men at the South West Gatehouse looking upwards. One of them's wearing a stripey polo shirt. How many horses can you see in the field below the South Tower? Answer = c

4. Find a grey haired man dressed in black walking briskly up the path. Find him when he's completely alone on a short flight of shallow steps. How many step risers are in this flight of steps? (Now you know which steps are required you can look for a better view.) Answer = d

5. Find a mother and daughter. The mother's wearing a red jumper and she's carrying a white rucksack on her left shoulder. Her daughter's wearing a white fleece jacket with the hood up and bright pink trousers. Find them when they're walking past the North Tower. How many other people can you see wearing rucksacks? Answer = e

6. Find an information board attached to a 5 bar gate leaning against a wall. How many words are in the title and subtitle? Answer = f

7. Find the Butavant Tower nameplate on the wall when you can (just!) read the words. How many people can you see? Answer = g

Using the above answers the cache is at N 50° 38. (a-e) (f+g) (a+b)  W 002° 03. (b+d) (b-c )(b+c).
