1.
Background and Introduction:
This year we are aiming to hold an event in each of the seven
surrounding African states. This is your chance to have some
foreign countries on your stats and to enjoy the beauty of these
countries with the geocachers. This is the Swaziland event. There
will be four different trips during this year to cover all of these
countries.
A single person and/or one vehicle can have trouble if anything
goes wrong in some of these countries. You need to be at least 3
vehicles. In a group you are adequately covered for the majority of
mishaps. Here you have the chance to visit these countries as a
group. Details such as where to meet, what to take with, how long,
etc will be dealt with on the forum and will not be discussed
here.
Our primary
objective is to
meet and to interact with the cachers in these African countries.
We hope to learn something from them and we hope to promote
geocaching with our interaction inside this community. The number
of cachers in these countries is not great and in some cases the
cachers are isolated from the normal geocaching community. The best
we can do is to interact with them on a personal basis and to make
friends and to encourage them if needed. An event is the best
option to share your experiences, your stories and to enjoy the
African country with a group of cachers. At each and every event I
have learned something new.
It is also a time to celebrate the milestones achieved of our
fellow geocachers which achieved great milestones just recently.
There are three men on the list which both obtained the 500
milestone mark. In alphabetic order they are Bakgat, Hosta and
ScotScot. Unfortunately Bakgat and ScotScot will not
attend due to family responsibility. Last but not least we will
also have the opportunity to celebrate with team Fish Eagle their
recent milestone of 2000 finds. A 2000 finds coin award will
be handed to them on behalf of the geocaching community as a
token of appareciation of their commitment, achievements and the
input they offered to geocaching both as cachers and reviewer. Well
done on this great milestone. If you know team Fish Eagle you will
understand that this is his world and one have to go far to find a
better location than this one to do the hand over of the award.
UPDATE: DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES TEAM FE CAN NO LONGER
ATTEND. WE HOPE FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY AND WISH YOU THE BEST.
A secondary
objective is to
find caches in a group. We will deal with the relevant issues on
the forum as a separate issue away from this listing. The event is
the focus of this listing and not the finding or organizing of the
caches. To log this event only attendance of the event is needed
anything from 1 minute to the full period. The organizing of any
cache hunts and the gathering at the border post is an additional
bonus away from the event.
