Short history
Anib Kalahari Lodge has a very rich and interesting history. The farm was originally purchased by Prince Friedrich Hermann of Solms-Baruth in 1937. He owned a 70 000 ha castle estate near Berlin as well as Klitschdorf Hunting Manor in Silesia. Prince Friedrich, who strongly disagreed with Hitler and the National Socialist philosophy, was proclaimed an enemy of the state by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels himself. He was placed into custardy and narrowly escaped execution twice. South African Prime Minister Jan Smuts personally arranged for Prince Friedrich Hermann to come to SWA. The original piece of land, that was used for sheep farming, was a mere 49 582 ha. It was later divided into three parts and sold in the 1960’s. One of those three farms, Named Anib was purchased in 2004, by the Gondwana-Collection of lodges, a company started by a group of passionate businessmen with the intent of starting private nature reserves. They transformed Anib farm into the Gondwana Kalahari Park, reintroducing game and re-establishing the veld to its original state. This cache is in memory of Prince Friedrich.
