Le château d'Auneau
Un premier château (“la Vieille cour”) fut édifié au VIIIème ou IXème siècle pour protéger la route de Chartres et les habitants du bourg. Au XIème siècle, un second bâtiment vit le jour sous l’impulsion du seigneur de l’époque, Hugues de Gallardon, vassal des Comtes de Chartres qui possédaient la châtellenie d’Auneau. Il reste de cette période le donjon rond qui fut surmonté au XVIème siècle d’un dôme et d’un lanternon.
En ces lieux se tenait le parc des Félins d’Auneau. Ce parc, ouvert en 1998, a fermé ses portes le 31 août 2006 et la totalité des animaux a été transférée sur un nouveau site situé à Nesles, en Seine-et-Marne. Le nouveau Parc des Félins a ouvert ses portes le 14 octobre 2006 : www.parc-des-felins.com.
La cache se situe aux abords de ce parc, malheureusement privé…

A first castle (the "Old Court") was built in the eighth or ninth century to protect the road to Chartres and the inhabitants of the town. At the eleventh century, a second building was born under the impulse of the lord of the time, Hughes de Gallardon, a vassal of the Counts of Chartres who had the lordship of Auneau. It remains of this period the round tower that was topped in the sixteenth century a dome and a lantern.
In these parts of the park stood Felines Auneau. The park, opened in 1998, closed its doors Aug. 31, 2006 and all animals were transferred to a new site located Nesles, Seine-et-Marne. The new Feline Park opened its doors October 14, 2006: www.parc des felins.com.
