About the Buffet Bar
Step back in time & visit one of the very few remaining
Victorian station buffet bars. Dating from 1885, it has retained
the original marble-topped bar, back fittings and the welcoming
fire.
A dozen years ago it was extended into the owners living
quarters and 1st class ladies waiting room with its ornate ceiling,
keeping all original features.
It’s a veritable museum with photographs of the station in
it’s heyday, railway and other memorabilia. Friendly staff, a
marvellous ever changing range of 8 real ales (over 7000 different
so far) , draught farm cider, along with Belgium and other foreign
bottled beers, will please the most discerning drinker.
Cheap old fashioned snacks such as tasty black peas and
sandwiches along with daily specials, homemade pie and peas, bacon
casserole and all day breakfast are available.
Freshly made coffee and tea by the pot are also on offer. Eat in
the bar or the conservatory and sit out on the platform on a sunny
day.
It’s well worth waiting for another train!
See you then.
