Where:
Noodles & Company
When:
Wednesday, February 9, 2011
Time:
6:00pm to 9:30pm
Why: To
celebrate two years of geocaching and launch The Swag Capsule
Please note: There is ample parking available, however there is
a small fee. I believe the Pentagon City Shopping Mall garage
offers a flat rate starting at 6:00pm
On February 9th I will have been caching for two years. To
celebrate this day I wanted to do something special. Enter
"The Swag
Capsule" - a Geocaching Time Capsule.
So here's the plan: I'm asking everyone to bring an item to the
event. It can be anything you want. Just please nothing too big,
say up to the size of a brick. Also please try to bring something
relatively light, so NO BRICKS! Most importantly: NOTHING
PERISHABLE. Other than that bring whatever you feel like bringing
as a donation to The Swag Capsule. I also do not recommend donating
any trackable items (Travel Bugs, Geocoins, etc.) since once the
Capsule is sealed it will remain so for Five Years! If you are the
owner of the trackable then it is your discretion whether or not to
donate that trackable. Unactivated trackables are okay.
For the Capsule itself I have chosen a five-gallon bucket. In a
way a kind of tribute to the original stash by Dave Ulmer.
It's Trackable!
I am making the Capsule itself into a Travel Bug! "The Swag Capsule" So be sure to discover it at the
event! While I will not be releasing it for travel I will be
bringing it to events throughout the next five years (hence my
request for NO BRICKS!) where it will be also available for
discovery.
So at the event I will have the Capsule and a special logbook
that will be placed inside before it is sealed. Everyone is asked
to sign this log with their caching name, the item they are leaving
in the Capsule, and any note or story they wish to share. Got any
predictions for the next five years?
The plan is to seal the container at 9:00pm, so everything needs
to be inside by that time.
The Future: Over the next Five Years the Swag Capsule will make
random appearances at any event I choose to carry it to. The rest
of the time it will reside at my house (Feel free to visit it if
you can find me!), safe and secure from Muggles and Mother Nature.
After the Five Years have passed I will hold another event to
re-open the Capsule. At that event we will raffle off the contents
(for free of course) to all who attend.
If you frequent caches in
Northern Virginia, consider joining NoVAGO.
