Explore a section of the Panting Trail (a 600-foot route along the varied terrain in Indian Mounds Park on this quarter-mile hike that traces the spine of Brady Mountain. The route features views of the Grassy Cove valley and an undulating ridgeline climb. Drop a vehicle at the Obb's Trailhead, then shuffle across the road and begin hiking at the trailhead.
The paved path immediately ascends a deer trail on the approach to Heave n Gasp, the first breather of the 500 foot climb to the hike’s high point. Continuing on to Brady Rest Stop, the trail reaches several overlooks (some accessed by spur trails) which offer unmatched views of Saint Paul and beyond. Thin trees afford better views in the winter, but July hikers are treated to wild blueberries and blackberries growing along the trail. After topping out at Brady Mountain, the route descends along the ridge before dropping sharply to Obb's Knobs and the Burns Trailhead.
