Geocache Description:

[LV]: Pīkas kalns - leduslaikmeta veidojums - 50 m aizsargjosla ap virsotni un Ziemeļvidzemes biosfēras rezervāta ainavu aizsardzības zonas režīms pagaidām ļauj to pasargāt no norakšanas
[EN]: Hill Pikas - ice age landform, pro tempore protected from excavation

[LV]:
Pīkas kalns ir augstākā Sakalas augstienes virsotne Latvijas teritorija – 105,2 m virs juras līmeņa.
Kalna nosaukums celies no Pīku mājām, kuru paliekas redzamas kalna dienvidu pusē.
Sakalas augstienes lielākā dala atrodas Igaunijas teritorija. Augstienes dienvidos ir tās virsmas augstākais punkts - Rutu kalns, 146 m v.j.l. (GC1ZFCX), 11 km uz ZZA no Pikas kalna.
Sakalas augstiene veidojusies pēdējā apledojuma laika – pirms 30-12 000 gadiem.

[EN]:
Hill Pikas (105,2 m a.s.l.) is the highest hill of Sakala Upland within the territory of Latvia. The hill got its name from farmstead Pikas (ruins to the S of hill).
Main part of Sakala Upland lies within Estonia. The highest point of Upland, hill Rutu (146 m a.s.l.) is 11 km to the NNE from hill Pikas.
Sakala Upland was created by glacier during the last glaciation – 30-12 kyrs ago. The Upland is situated above the elevation of bedrock that reaches the highest point to the North of Vilandi, near Surgavere (80 m a.s.l.).
Sakala Upland was formed between two lobes of glacier that moved along depressions of lakes Burtnieku and Vursjarv. Glacial meltwater deposited sand and gravel within crevassed ice divide zone. Closer to the end of ice movement sandy deposits were deformed and covered with clayey till layer.
The part of Sakala Upland where the hill Pikas is situated is named Ungurinu hilly area. This area carry significant sand and gravel resources (fields Ungurini and hill Pikas).
Hill Pikas lies within Naukšeni municipality, north Vidzeme biosphere reserve landscape protection zone and North Vidzeme Geopark. more information: www.daba.gov.lv and www.geoparks.lv.
