Le Mont Saint Quentin, dont le sommet domine Metz et la vallée de la Moselle de près de 200 mètres, attire l’Homme, depuis des millénaires. Lieu de cultes dans l’Antiquité gauloise, et lieu de promenades de nos jours… Lieu de combats, aussi, durant la guerre qui opposa la France à la Prusse à la fin du XIXème siècle ! A cette époque, ce sont les armées belligérantes qui l’ont fort convoité ! Point culminant du Pays Messin, il constituait en effet une position stratégique de la plus haute importance, qui permettrait aux troupes qui s’y positionneraient de contrôler Metz et sa périphérie… Le commandement français l’avait bien compris… Depuis le 5 janvier 2010 ont débuté concrètement les opérations de diagnostic de pollution pyrotechnique sur les groupes du Mont Saint Martin et du fort de Plappeville, sous la maîtrise d'ouvrage de l'établissement d'infrastructure de la Défense de Metz. La CA2M participe à l'opération de débroussaillage, de diagnostic et de dépollution pyrotechnique pour un montant global de 944 552 €. Comme son nom l’indique, cette 1ère phase consiste à mettre en sécurité le site et en valeur la silhouette du groupe fortifié du Saint-Quentin en défrichant et en déboisant la périphérie Sud. Les seuls travaux d’infrastructures consisteront en la restauration de la route qui permet l’accès à la Tour Hertzienne.
