Geocache Description:

5th cache in the series. Note that there is no cache hidden at the coordinates and there is no need to access the rock face. All the information required can be obtained from the footpath. Please take care with children.

The Charnwood landscape is shaped by its geology, evolving over 600 million years. Some of the oldest fossils of plant life have been found in the Charnwood rocks. At the cache location you will see a large crag composed of a sedimentary breccia which has probably formed when a landslide under the sea carried large volumes of sedimentary rock from the shallow waters down into the deeper waters. This sequence of events has been established by looking closely at the composition of the rock and its surroundings. The rock contains gritty lumps mixed in with finer grained mudstone. These coarse grained gritty lumps are the sedementary material carried down the slope by the landslide where they came to rest in the muds deposited in the deeper waters. There is more information on this and the geology of Charnwood available on the information board around 200 metres away further down the path ( way point to be added ! ) To log this cache you need to go to the coordinates, take a pen, paper and camera and email me the following....... 1. Post in your log a picture of you or your GPS in front of the submarine landslide......... 2. Estimate the height of the landslide...... 3. What type of stone do you think this is ? is it rought or smooth to the touch Congratulations to Ashby Bells and Thefieldingfive for being FTF! just for clarity - I'm posting the logging requirements for this Earthcache here https://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=296 whilst there is no physical container and thus log to sign- I do expect those that attempt this cache to answer the questions posed on the cache page. I will offer assistance to those that struggle - but the actions are at GZ
