Broadstreet Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

hofficoffi: I had not realised that this one has had 4 DNFs - I usually take action after 2 or 3. I've decided to archive this one as the GZ is in a horrible state. It is entirely overgrown and, for much of the year, also very waterlogged and/or flooded. Any maintenance of the area (the tree stumps prove there have been some) stopped a long while back, probably a few years ago.

I feel caching should bring people to interesting places. If the interest is, or is in addition to, it being a pretty place then all the better. This was only interesting because of the cache, unless one is interested in the neglect of a public area or thorns, so I could no longer justify bringing people here.

Geocache Description:

A relatively easy small cache, with only one relatively tricky obstacle to overcome to collect it. Although not necessarily so.

Original description...

Broadstreet common is part of a 1000 acre green area covering the north west of Guildford that is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by Surrey Wildlife Trust. It is a major wildlife reserve and amenity area for the local community, and was historically used to provide grazing and foraging.

I moved into the area, and I am surpised that there has not been many other caches set out around this area, because there is so much space and so much potential for a decent cache trail.

Added by HoffiCoffi on adoption of the cache

I found this cache in a very sorry state it was floating in a very deep pool of water which surrounded the base of the tree under which it was nestling. Obviously the location was not waterlogged when the original cache was placed - the old CO moved to New Zealand long before the wettest year Britain has experienced since records began. I took pity on the poor cache and offered to take over responsibility for it.
The cache is now in a much drier location about 10 meters away, all the previous information remains the same even the hint.
I've relaunched this cache with a very nice geocoin for the first to find - so c'mon and have a go if you think you're up to it.
