Geocache Description:

This should be an easy stop and grab.

HISTORY OF ANDOVER
One of the earliest known settlements along the Saint John River was called Tobique. (now Andover)

Towards the end of the 18th century loyalist English soldiers settled Andover and across the river Perth was settled by Scotts and by 1966 the two historic villages became one Perth-Andover.
In the 19th century they received land in lieu of payment. Perth on the east bank of the river owes it’s name to the Scottish city. The village is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Tobique.”

I chose to place a cache here on the banks of the Saint John River on the Andover side because I lived here many years ago, before moving to Saint John. Hence the name of the cache. When I lived here the railroad bridge that was to the left of the cache is long gone due to an ice jam many years ago. The bridge to the right, has replaced the one that was here when I lived here. There also was a Farmers Store at the end of the bridge where everyone got there groceries on Sat. night. Also beside it was a theater, where I often got to go to see the Sat. afternoon show. I think the cost of admission was 10 cents, (not giving away my age am I?) A lot of the houses on the Andover side has been moved to higher ground or have been torn down due to the flooding in the area some springs.
This is our first cache in the Perth-Andover area, but hope to place more here in the future.
Take time to enjoy the view and history that this area has to offer.
Cache is a sm. peanut butter jar with a log book, pencil and some small traders. There is a toonie for the FTF to have a cup on me.
