En enkel earthcache som visar en stäppartad kalkrik mark, precis som Ölands Alvaret.
Närke har precis som Öland varit havsbotten under olika perioder i jordens historia. Dessa finns bevarade som tiotals meter tjocka sedimentära kalkstenslager. Dessa har täckts över med morän från senare tider (istiden, e.g. Weichel-nedisningen) som numera är närkes bördiga jordar. På vissa platser har kalkstensberggrunden kommit i dagen. Eftersom kalksten är användbar för människor, bland annat som byggnadsmaterial, har dessa platser blivit kalkbrott. Men här finns en av de få platser kvar där bara ett tunt lager morän täcker berggrunden och där kalkstenen kommer ur jorden som små berghällar. Just denna kalksten kallas ortceratitkalksten, efter en bläckfiskart som lämnat fossil i stor mängd i stenen.
För att logga cachen krävs följande:
1. Vid koordinaterna finns en lite större stenhäll*. Mät längd och bredd på den och skicka in måtten via cacheägarens profil.
2. Ett par hundra meter fågelvägen ligger "Trilobiten". Förklara i mail till cachägaren vilket samband som existerar mellan ortoceratiter och trilobiter.
3. Ortoceratiter var bläckfiskar med ett vridet skal. Det är dessa skal man ser fossilerade i olika typer av kalksten. De var en av flera arter med skal. Vad heter den enda nu levande bläckfiskfamiljen (det räcker också med att nämna en av de ingående arterna) med skal?
4. OBS! FRIVILLIGT: Logga cachen med ett foto på dig själv i närheten av koordinaterna. Om du inte vill vara med på bild så leta rätt på informationstavlan och skriv i loggen den växt som finns på tavlan som väcker tanken på en krydda. OBS! kryptera namnet så att den som inte vill ha en spoiler slipper det.
Man behöver inte vänta på tillstånd för att logga cachen men svaret på frågorna bör komma in inom några dagar annars raderas loggen.
*En del loggar har kommenterat valet av ordet: häll. Det kallas häll där berget kommer fram, eller rättare där det inte finns något som täcker berget. Det är alltså en häll, men en liten.
The province of Närke has just as the island Öland been the bottom of oceans during various periods of earths history. These seafloors are preserved as tens of meters of sedimentary rock. Later they were covered with moraine of younger eras (the ice age, i.e. the Weichel-period) which today is the rich soil of the province. In some places the moraine layer is so thin that the limestone rock shows. Usually this has resulted in a quarry since limestone is useful to people, as building material for instance.
This particular limestone is called orthoceratite limestone because of a spieces of squid that has fossilized in the limestone.
To log this cache you have to:
1. Send in the length and with of the rock at the coordinates. Use the address in the cacheowner's profile.
2. A few hundred feet, as the bird flies, resides the restaurant "The trilobite". Explain in the mail the connection between orthoceratites and trilobites.
3. Orthoceratites are cephalopods* (*squid, octopus and a couple more groups) with screwed shells. One of a few Cephalopoda with shells. What are the only living shelled cephalopoda called? Naming one is enough.
4. OPTIONAL! Log the cache with a picture of your self or a picture of the top left quarter of the information sign near the coordinates.
You need not permission to log the cache, but you are required to send in the answers in a few days or your log will be deleted.
