Geocache Description:

Beautiful area of quiet seclusion in the southern-most part of Sand Dunes State Forest.

This cache meets State Forest guidelines.

The adventuresome souls will hike in from 233rd avenue (see supplied waypoint S1, SFNAP). Follow the trail from the parking to the south for about 1/4 mile. The trail will pass a wetland area on the left side. Just before the wet area there is a minor trail that leads past the eastern end of the wetland. Follow that trail south until you come to an area of logging scrag. Continue south until you intersect an east/west trail. Then head west toward GZ.

If you prefer a slightly shorter (but not necessarily easier) route, park and enter from waypoint S2, SFWAP. From this point head straight east to GZ. This way in is shorter, but there is more logging debris and rough terrain.

The 3.5 terrain rating is for the long walk in, and the rough walking once you reach areas that have been logged.

My goal in caching and cache placement is to find areas that are a reward in themselves. If you are up for the hike, this rarely visited area of the SDSF is well worth the effort! Be sure to take time to note and enjoy the large variety of native prairie grasses found in this area of the Dunes!

NOTE: Do NOT try to access this area from the south as you will have to cross private property within the State Forest.
