Jatkosodan aikaan rintamalle lähtöä vältelleitä miehiä kutsuttiin
käpykaartilaisiksi tai metsäkaartilaisiksi. Syitä sodan välttelyyn
oli monia. Osa pelkäsi aikaisempia talvisodan aikaisia julmuuksia,
osalla taas oli aatteellisia mielipiteitä sodan julmuutta vastaan.
Osa ei halunnut käydä taistoon itäistä naapuria vastaan, vaan he
odottivat, että kommunistiveljet tulevat ja vapauttavat Suomen.
Rintamakarkurit elelivät karuissa oloissa metsissä piileskellen,
kiinnijäämisen pelko oli jatkuvasti läsnä. Rangaistuksena
rintamakarkuruudesta oli yleensä kuolemantuomio. Metsäkaartilaiset
rakentelivat asumuksikseen korsuja sopiviin syrjäisiin
mäennyppylöihin. Metsäkaartilaiset olivat riippuvaisia lähikylien
asukkaista, joiden kanssa he kävivät vaihtokauppaa mm. marjoilla,
sienillä, sekä metsästämällään riistalla ja kaloilla.
Tämä kätkö esittelee erään piilokorsun jäännökset. Korsu on
ollut aikaisemmin vain muutaman ihmisen tiedossa. Korsun puiset
päälirakenteet ovat täysin tuhoutuneet aikojen kuluessa, mutta
maakaivanto on edelleen selvästi erotettavissa ympäristöstä. Korsun
suhteellisen pieni koko lienee tarjonnut suojaa vain korkeintaan
kahdelle miehelle. Maanomistaja on tietoinen kätköstä.

KÄTKÖLLE PÄÄSEMINEN, TAPA 1:
Merkityltä pysäköintipaikalta on noin 540m matkaa kätkölle. Maasto
on tasaista, mutta joudut ylittämään useamman äskettäin peratun
ojan (kumisaappaat), siksi korkeampi terrain-luokitus.
Pysäköintipaikalta lähtee vanha ajoura, jota seuraamalla pääset
ojitetulle metsäalueelle. Sen jälkeen kannattanee seurata
ojalinjoja, jotka vievät lähelle kätköä.
KÄTKÖLLE PÄÄSEMINEN, TAPA 2:
Vaihtoehtoisesti voit jättää auton parkkiin metsäautotien päähän,
josta on hieman lyhyempi kävelymatka kätkölle. Myös tämän
metsäautotien päästä lähtee vanha ajoura kätkölle päin. Maasto
muuttuu kuitenkin melko nopeasti varsin tiheäksi metsäksi. Myös
tätä kautta lähestyttäessä pääset ylittämään useamman ojan.
Metsäautotiellä kannattaa varoa auton pohjaa tiestä nousseilta
maakiviltä, sekä kylkien naarmuuntumista tienreunan
kasvillisuudesta.

During the Finish Continuation War some of the men avoided
participating the front line by hiding in forests. Those men were
called as 'Forest Guards' or 'Cone Guards'. Avoiding the
recruitment had many reasons. Some of the men were already scared
by the Winter War's cruelties, some of them had some ideas against
the War. Some of them didn't want to fight against the eastern
neighbor, instead they were waiting that the communist brothers
from Russia will come and release the Finland.
Those hiders lived in very rough conditions along with the
constant fear of being caught. Execution was the most common
punishment. Typical dwelling was dugout in the middle of nowhere.
Hiders needed some external help to survive and they used to have
some exchange trade (berries, mushrooms, fish, game etc.) with the
nearby villages.
This cache reveals the remain of one dugout. This dugout has
been previously known only by a few of people. Roof constructions
typically made from wood has been totally gone, but the shape of
the dugout can still be recognized. The size of the dugout is quite
small and it may have provide shelter for not more than two man.
Landowner has been informed about the cache.
CACHE IS NOT IN THE DUGOUT SO PLEASE DO NOT EXPLORE ANYTHING
FROM IT AND PLEASE LEAVE IT REMAIN UNTOUCHED.
HOW-TO-GET-TO-THE-CACHE, WAY 1:
From the pointed parking area there is about 540m to the cache.
Terrain is quite flat, but you have to cross several recently
renewed ditches (rubber boots), that is why higher terrain level.
From parking area starts old trail, and by following it you will
end up to ditched area. Then it might be easiest to follow the
ditch lines that will take near the cache.
HOW-TO-GET-TO-THE-CACHE, WAY 2:
Alternatively you can leave your car at the end of forest road for
shorter walking. Also old trail towards the cache starts here, but
the open terrain changes rapidly quite dense forest. From this way
you will also have to cross some ditches. When driving on the
forest road, watch out and try not to hit the car bottom on the
high stones in the road and prevent the car sides to be scratched
from bushes at the sides of the road.
