This cache is placed on Dene Lane, a green lane that runs south from Moor Lane in Cleadon towards the Dene through the training academy for Sunderland Association Football Club. This is a favoured public footpath for dog-walkers.
The Academy of Light is situated just outside the city boundary within the boundaries of the South Tyneside village of Cleadon.
When SAFC first applied for this facility to South Tyneside MBC many villagers in Cleadon were rather upset at a development on greenbelt land that seperates the connurbations of South Shields/Jarrow and Sunderland. However outdoorsporting use and essential ancillary facilities are a permitted development under English planning laws.
The academy is used for the training of SAFC under 18 players. Some of them are at the academy almost full-time taking part in academic studies as well as the training of the young people to be professional footballers.
The cache is a small clear box that I have re-used from another place. It holds a log (roll of paper) and small pencil. The cache is then inside a zip-lock style bag to keep it dry (over wetting was the reason it was swapped out from its previous location).
