A proximité des fortifications de Maubeuge, le char Renault FT-17. Le modèle exposé est une maquette à l’échelle 1 du plus connu des chars de combat français,de la première guerre mondiale.
Near the fortifications of Maubeuge, there is the Renault FT-17 tank. The model presented is a copy normal size of a more famous French tank of the First World War.
Cette copie du char Renault FT-17 a été exposée à Maubeuge en 1970, pour rendre hommage au 509e régiment de chars de combat basé, à partir des années 20, dans la cité, alors ville de garnison.
Le nom du char FT-17 représente l'année 1917 où il fut créé, les lettres FT sont un code chronologique de la production Renault de l'époque. Le modèle précédent était FS et le suivant FU. Le véhicule FU était le camion destiné au transport du Renault FT-17.
Les études commencèrent en mai 1916, le prototype fut construit au début de juillet 1917 et de 3 800 exemplaires furent produits. 950 exemplaires ont été construits aux USA sous licence, la plupart après la guerre.
Le char de Maubeuge a été restauré au début de l’année et, depuis le 21 mai 2010 il brille avec sa nouvelle peinture.
La cache est un tube d’aspirine avec un log book et quelques médailles et pièces de monnaie du monde.
This copy of the Renault FT-17 tank, has been exposed to Maubeuge in 1970 to honor the 509th regiment of tanks based, since the year 1920 in the city, then military town.
The name of the FT-17 tank is the year 1917 when it was created, the letters FT are a chronological code for the Renault’s production at this time. The previous model was the FS and after the FU. FU vehicle was the truck for transporting the Renault FT-17.
